STRETCHING
Today's lifestyle see us sitting for most of the day (depending upon our job of course). We generally sit to eat our breakfast, travel to work, work, eat our lunch, return home, eat our dinner and then to relax and watch TV or use the computer again. The consequences of sitting so much is that we shorten our hamstrings which in turn pulls on the lower back muscles and we end up with lower back pain. 90% of acute lower back pain is muscular!
What we need to do to help us cope with our modern lifestyle is to stretch.
Watch what animals do - they stretch themselves several times throughout the day...wherever they are!
Start the day with a feel good stretch in bed.
Take the time to stretch at work, at traffic lights and after sitting for lengthy periods.
If you use a computer all day, take time out to stretch your hands but don't forget your neck, arms and shoulders.
If you would prefer to join a class, then yoga or pilates would be recommended.
REMEMBER not to take it to the point where it causes PAIN.
